Can mirena iud cause thyroid problems?

My sister has a Mirena IUD and recently got diagnosed with a thyroid condition. She's convinced it's because of the IUD. Is there any medical basis for this? Can Mirena IUD cause thyroid problems?

I completely understand why you are stressed about this because I used to search every single symptom online and panic. When I got my Mirena, I was convinced my thyroid was acting up because of it. Honestly, talking to my doc and getting a simple blood test was the only thing that actually calmed my mind.

Haha, if we blame everything on the IUD, it will need its own defense lawyer! But seriously, Mirena releases hormones locally, so it shouldn't ideally mess with your thyroid. Better to get your levels checked instead of letting Google convince you that your neck is about to explode.

Haan na, even I had this doubt when my weight started fluctuating after the loop insertion. Actually, Mirena has progesterone, which usually doesn't affect thyroid directly, but body changes can feel so weird. Doctor se consult karke ek baar thyroid profile check kar lo, simple ho jayega.

Oh god, even I have been feeling so tired and cold lately after getting Mirena! Did anyone else here actually get diagnosed with thyroid issues after insertion? Please let me know, I am seriously thinking of getting it removed now.

Directly? No, there is no strong medical link between Mirena and thyroid issues. If you are feeling fatigued or seeing sudden weight shifts, go get a proper TSH test done. Don't sit and guess on internet forums, just see an endocrinologist.

I know how frustrating it is when your body feels out of balance. I tried changing my diet, having coriander seed water, and cutting gluten, but my thyroid levels still needed doctor's advice. Don't rely just on home remedies for this; get your blood reports checked properly.
