Can metformin cause muscle pain?

Since starting Metformin a few months ago for my diabetes, I've been experiencing muscle aches and pains more frequently. I'm wondering if this medication could be the cause of my muscle pain.

Oh god, I actually read about lactic acidosis online and got so scared when my calf muscles started hurting! It's usually rare, but please don't ignore severe muscle pain. Ask your doctor about your B12 levels because metformin can sometimes cause a B12 deficiency.

My physician explained that long-term metformin use can reduce Vitamin B12 absorption, which directly leads to muscle cramps and weakness. He put me on a B12 supplement and the pain stopped. You should get your levels tested and discuss this with your doctor.

I have BP and take metformin too, and sometimes I get mild body aches. I make sure to do regular physical checkups and blood work every six months. Always tell your doctor about new pains so they can adjust your routine.

I deal with thyroid issues along with blood sugar, so fatigue and muscle pain are my constant companions. It's very hard to know if it's the metformin or something else. I highly suggest getting regular thyroid, vitamin D, and B12 tests done to stay on top of it.

My cousin told me to apply warm sesame oil for the leg cramps, which helps temporarily. But I trusted my doctor and told him about the ache. He checked my reports and slightly adjusted my dosage, and now I feel much better.
