Can metformin cause liver disease?

I've been taking Metformin for my PCOS for a while. I read somewhere online that it might lead to liver problems or liver disease. Should I be concerned?

According to the research and what my endocrinologist explained, metformin does not cause liver disease. In fact, it is sometimes used to help manage fatty liver in patients with insulin resistance. Only if you have pre-existing severe liver failure, doctors might avoid it.

Yaar, at this age, every pill I swallow makes me feel like my organs are complaining! But seriously, my doctor laughed when I asked this and said metformin is innocent. It is my love for late-night sweets that my liver is actually scared of.

My grandmother was worried and suggested some herbal roots instead, but I chose to trust my doctor. He assured me metformin is very safe and won't cause liver disease. Keeping my blood sugar in check is far more important for long-term health.

I know how terrifying it is when you first start these long-term medicines. I literally cried thinking I was destroying my body and liver. But looking back, taking it was the best decision for my PCOS and my liver tests are totally perfect.

Agree with others here. Metformin is safe and doesn't cause liver disease; just get your regular liver function tests done.

There is a lot of misinformation online, but clinical studies actually show metformin is safe for the liver. However, self-medication is never a good idea. Always let your doctor run the necessary baseline tests before starting.

In my experience handling prescriptions daily, metformin causing liver disease is extremely rare. We only flag it if a patient already has advanced cirrhosis. Just follow your prescribed dose and don't worry about this.

Listen, don't let these random internet articles scare you. Metformin is a very old and trusted medicine, and it won't damage your liver. Just eat healthy, avoid alcohol, and trust your physician.

I literally spend hours on Google reading about liver failure and got so scared of my metformin prescription. But my doctor assured me it’s fine and my reports are totally normal. It's scary but we have to trust the doctors, we will be okay!

Haan na, starting a new tablet always makes us worry about our organs. But metformin doesn't cause liver problems, ho na. My doctor told me it is very safe, so please don't take tension.

Bro, my sleep schedule is so ruined that my liver probably hates me for that, not for the metformin! Seriously though, metformin is fine. Just take it with food as prescribed and get some sleep.

Please don't skip your routine checkups. I once ignored my doctor's advice for regular blood tests while taking my meds, and ended up with other health issues. Go get your regular liver function test (LFT) done so you can have peace of mind.
