Can metformin cause kidney stones?

I recently had a kidney stone, and I also take Metformin for my blood sugar. I'm wondering if there's any connection, or if Metformin can cause kidney stones.

Honestly I keep reading every single side effect leaflet and literally lose sleep over this! I actually searched this exact thing last month because my uncle takes metformin. From what I read, it does not directly cause kidney stones but please talk to your doctor to clear your head, na? Overthinking will only make you more stressed!

Hey, don't stress too much about this. My dad has been on metformin for like five years now and his kidneys are absolutely fine. Just make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day to stay safe, okay?

I’ve been taking metformin for my insulin resistance for a year now and haven't had any issues. My doctor told me it's totally safe for kidneys as long as your baseline kidney function is fine. Just get your routine blood tests done and relax.

Hey there! As far as I know, metformin doesn't cause kidney stones at all. Just keep yourself hydrated and eat a nice balanced diet. Have a great day and stay healthy! 😊

Same here, my doctor also confirmed there is no link between metformin and kidney stones. Just stay well hydrated and don't worry.

Humare ghar mein bhi do log ye dava kha rahe hain, unhe kabhi aisi takleef nahi hui. Aap bilkul chinta mat kijiye. Bas thoda paani dher sara piya karein aur samay par khana khayein, sab theek rahega.

I manage my diabetes with metformin and diet control, and my nephrologist told me it doesn't cause stones. In fact, keeping your blood sugar controlled actually protects your kidneys from damage. Just keep an eye on your HbA1c and don't skip your checkups.
