Can metamucil cause stomach pain?

My father started taking Metamucil for constipation a few weeks ago. Now, he occasionally complains of stomach pain. We're trying to figure out if the supplement is causing his discomfort.

Haan beta, isabgol jaisi chizen agar bina paani ke kha lo toh pet mein dard pakka hota hai. Jab bhi isko lo, kam se kam do bada glass paani zaroor piyo. Agar dard zyada ho toh thoda garam paani se sek kar lo, theek ho jayega.

Yes, it can cause stomach pain and severe bloating initially. It is usually because the fiber is absorbing water in your gut. Try reducing the dose and see if it helps.

Our digestive fire needs to be treated gently. Sudden introduction of heavy fiber can sometimes upset the natural balance of your stomach, causing pain. Just take a deep breath, drink plenty of warm water, and let your body adapt slowly. Take care.

My doctor explained that psyllium husk absorbs a massive amount of water in the intestinal tract. If you do not consume enough fluids, it forms a thick gel that can cause partial obstruction and severe cramping. He advised always drinking 250ml of water with the dose, followed by another glass of water immediately after.

Hey, don't stress too much! It's super common to get some stomach ache when you start taking fiber supplements like Metamucil. Your gut is just getting used to the bulk. Just drink lots of water and you'll be completely fine in a couple of days.
