As a diabetic, I take high-fiber supplements to keep my sugar levels stable. But if I don't drink enough water with it, my stomach starts aching and cramping terribly. You have to drink at least a full glass of water with it, otherwise the fiber blocks things up.
Beta, sudden heavy doses of these packed psyllium husk powders can be very heavy for our intestines. It is always better to start with just half a spoon. If your stomach is hurting, stop it for two days and try drinking warm water with a little carom seeds (ajwain) boiled in it to soothe the gas.
I feel your pain, I also got severe cramps when I first started it. I realized I was swallowing it too fast without enough water. Try having a cup of warm fennel tea (saunf pani) when the ache starts; it really helps release the trapped gas.

In my experience, psyllium fiber expands rapidly in the gut, which can cause sudden stretch and spasm in your stomach lining, leading to pain. Always start with a very low dose and build up slowly. If the abdominal pain is sharp or accompanied by vomiting, please consult your doctor immediately.
