In India, usually only registered medical doctors or psychiatrists can prescribe allopathic medicines, ho na. Nurse practitioners have limited roles here compared to western countries. So, it is always better to consult an MD psychiatrist directly for medicines.

I didn't know there was a specific nurse practitioner for mental health. Can they prescribe anti-anxiety pills directly in our hospitals, or do we still need a signature from a senior psychiatrist? Sorry, I am just trying to understand the system.

With the number of rules we have in our medical system, even buying mild sleeping pills requires a dozen signatures! Honestly, just go to a registered psychiatrist. Don't complicate things by trying to get prescriptions from nursing staff, it will just save you a trip to the chemist.

If you want to save on heavy consulting fees, you should know that in Indian clinics, only licensed psychiatrists with an MBBS/MD can write prescriptions for psychiatric drugs. Nurse practitioners might help with therapy, but you'll eventually need a doctor's prescription for the pharmacy, so budget accordingly.

I always prefer being cautious about medication since I deal with hormonal imbalances. From what I know, nurse practitioners in India do not have independent prescribing rights for psychiatric meds. It is always safest to consult a proper psychiatrist who can evaluate your complete health history before putting you on any pills.
