Can menopause cause hip pain?

I'm in my late 40s and going through menopause, and lately, my hip pain has become really bad. My friends say it's just old age, but I'm wondering if menopause could be making it worse or causing it directly. It's affecting my daily walking.

Honestly, my mom was literally crying about this last month. She was having so much trouble getting up from the bed because of her hips. Actually, her doc said hormonal drops in menopause make bones and joints super weak. It is definitely a real thing!

My aunt had this terrible hip ache during her menopause phase. First we thought it was just lack of exercise, but the doctor told us to up her calcium and vitamin D levels. We started making sure she had fresh paneer, milk, and ragi laddoos daily. Proper food makes such a huge difference, ya!

Yes, joint and hip pain is very common during this transition as estrogen levels go down. I had severe stiffness in my right hip a few years back. Doing very gentle butterfly stretches and daily pranayama really helped release that deep tension. Please don't force any hard movements, just listen to your body.

Agreed, my wife faced the exact same hip stiffness. Getting a quick bone density test done is really helpful to rule out other things.

I was actually reading up on this because my mother-in-law is going through it. Apparently, the sudden drop in estrogen affects joint cartilage, which is why hips and knees start hurting out of nowhere. It's crazy how much hormones control our entire skeletal system.

I literally just got over this phase! For six months my left hip was aching so badly I couldn't even sleep on my side. I finally visited an orthopaedic doc who checked my bone density and put me on specific supplements. It took some weeks but the pain has almost completely vanished now.
