Can melatonin cause stomach pain?

Since starting melatonin pills recently to regulate my sleep cycle, I've been getting some mild stomach discomfort and pain at night. I'm wondering if this could be a side effect of the melatonin I'm taking.

Oh god, yes! I took it last week and had such bad stomach cramps, I immediately started googling if I had some major digestion issue. It turns out mild stomach pain is a common side effect of melatonin, so don't stress too much.

I just started taking melatonin two days ago and my stomach has been feeling really heavy and uneasy. Does this side effect usually go away as the body gets used to the supplement, or should I stop it?

Yes, it can cause a mild upset stomach or cramps in some people. When my teenager had trouble sleeping and took it, he complained of stomach ache. We stopped it and just focused on keeping a fixed screen-free bedtime, which worked much better.

It can definitely cause a little tummy ache for some people! Try lowering your dose and see if it helps. Drink some warm water and take care! 😊

Yes, gastrointestinal issues like nausea, cramps, or stomach pain are known side effects of oral melatonin. If it is bothering you, try reducing your dose or taking it with a very light snack instead of an empty stomach.

Bro, I had terrible stomach cramps when I was popping 5mg melatonin tablets every night. I cut down the dose to 1.5mg and the stomach ache vanished completely. Just lower your dose.
