Can medication cause kidney stones?

My father recently developed kidney stones, and he's on quite a few medications for other health issues. This made me wonder if certain medicines can actually contribute to the formation of kidney stones. Is this a known side effect for some prescriptions?

Yes, certain calcium supplements and antibiotics can cause them. Make sure to drink at least 3 liters of water daily to flush things out.

I can only share what happened to me. I was taking high-dose calcium tablets for my joint pain without a doctor's prescription and ended up with a painful kidney stone. Once I stopped the supplements, the issue didn't return.

My nephrologist told me that medications like certain diuretics, antacids containing calcium, and some thyroid drugs can increase the risk of crystallization in kidneys. Always review your complete medication list with your doctor to find the exact cause.

Absolutely, yes. OTC meds and even some heavy prescription drugs can alter urine chemistry and lead to stones. Don't self-medicate, and always ask your doctor for alternative options if you are prone to stones.

Man, as if dealing with the actual illness wasn't enough, now the pills can give you stones too! Honestly, I am too tired to even think about it, but drinking a gallon of water seems to be the only way to survive this medication life.

My grandmother used to say eating too many pills heats up the body and causes stones, but my doctor clarified that certain specific medicines do crystalize in the urine. It is best to consult your general physician before stopping any prescribed medication.

Whoa, didn't know this was possible! My roommate was popping pain relief pills like candy last semester and got severe side pain. Better safe than sorry, guys, dont take meds without asking a doc.
