Can malaria spread person to person?

We've had a few cases of malaria in our colony this season. I know mosquitoes are the main culprit, but I'm trying to understand all the risks. Can malaria spread directly from an infected person to a healthy person?

My joints hurt just thinking about running away from patients, but thankfully malaria doesn't spread through direct touch or breathing. Unless you have mosquitoes flying around to carry the blood from them to you, you won't catch it. Keep the repellent turned on and relax.

It doesn't spread through normal contact, but you must be very careful if there are mosquitoes in the house because they can bite the sick person and then bite you. If anyone in the house gets a sudden fever, please go to a doctor immediately.

I used to get so stressed and wash my hands ten times if anyone around me had fever. But I researched this extensively and realized malaria cannot spread through touch, saliva, or coughing. It's safe to be around the patient, just make sure there are no mosquitoes.

No, it is not a contagious disease like flu or COVID. It requires a mosquito bite to go from one person to another. Just use good insect screens at home and focus on your work without worrying.

I was so scared to sit near my sister when she got malaria because I thought I would get it too. Did anyone else also feel this sudden panic before finding out it only spreads through mosquitoes? It is such a relief to know it's not contagious.
