Can lysol kill tb germs?

My neighbour's relative just got diagnosed with TB, and I'm really worried about germs spreading, especially since we share a common building. I use Lysol for cleaning my home regularly. Will it be effective against TB bacteria?

Lysol might clean normal household surfaces, but tuberculosis germs are very tough. In my house, we always boil patients' clothes and keep the room extremely airy with lots of sunlight. Sunlight is actually the best natural enemy for TB bacteria, so keep those windows open!

I am not very sure about this, but I thought Lysol only kills normal flu viruses. Can it really handle something serious like TB? If someone in the family has it, should we buy hospital-grade disinfectants instead?

Standard Lysol sprays usually don't kill Mycobacterium tuberculosis unless it is specifically mentioned as 'tuberculocidal' on the label. TB germs have a very waxy coating. For disinfection, you need proper medical-grade disinfectants or bleach solutions, and of course, proper ventilation.

Oh, TB germs are so scary because they stay in the air for so long! I read that normal Lysol might not work on them, which makes me so worried for you. Please consult the doctor treating the patient and ask them for a specific disinfectant list so you have peace of mind.

I have been spraying Lysol everywhere because my uncle was diagnosed with TB, and now I am panicking. Is it not enough to protect the rest of us? Has anyone else dealt with this at home, what did you use to clean?

Dekho, normal floor cleaners like Lysol won't guarantee TB germ protection. The most practical thing is to keep the patient's room well-ventilated so air flows out, wash their utensils separately in boiling water, and use standard bleach for bathroom surfaces. Simple, cheap, and highly effective.
