Can lyme disease cause weight gain?

Noticing significant and unexplained weight gain recently, despite no major changes to my diet or activity. I also have other symptoms like fatigue and joint aches, and some friends are suggesting it might be Lyme disease. Can Lyme disease cause weight gain?

I gained almost 8 kgs during my Lyme recovery because the fatigue was so heavy that I couldn't move much. My tip is to focus on a clean, low-carb diet and keep yourself hydrated with lemon water. Don't force yourself to do heavy workouts; let your body heal first.

Yes, Lyme disease can cause weight gain indirectly due to extreme fatigue, lack of physical activity, or hormonal imbalances.

Yes, weight gain is a common concern among Lyme patients, often linked to thyroid disruption or simply reduced mobility. It is highly manageable once the infection is controlled. Make sure to discuss your metabolic symptoms with your doctor during your regular follow-ups.

Looking back at my recovery years ago, the sudden weight gain was very frustrating but completely natural. Your body goes through metabolic changes and lack of activity while fighting the infection. Don't worry, once your energy levels return, you will easily shed those extra pounds.

I totally relate to this, the weight gain during Lyme is so demoralizing when you already feel sick. It usually happens because chronic fatigue keeps us in bed all day. Focus on eating light, nutritious meals and try not to stress about the scale right now.
