Can lupus cause elevated liver enzymes?

Having lupus, I recently went for my routine blood work. My doctor mentioned that my liver enzymes are a bit high, which is concerning. I was wondering if lupus itself can be a reason for elevated liver enzymes.

Yes, lupus or the strong medications used to manage it can cause liver enzymes to go up. I have to manage my sugar and liver health closely, so I avoid any heavy fried food or self-prescribed supplements. Please discuss this with your doctor and keep a close eye on your diet.

Hey, don't worry too much. Elevated liver enzymes are actually quite common in lupus, often due to the medications like NSAIDs or immunosuppressants you might be taking. Just show the reports to your rheumatologist; they will adjust the dosage or suggest a simple liver tonic to bring them back to normal.

Liver function tests can add up if you have to do them frequently, so I suggest looking for a diagnostic lab package that offers monthly subscription discounts. Lupus meds do affect the liver, so regular LFTs are necessary. Budgeting for these tests in advance helps manage the treatment cost without stress.

I got so scared when my SGOT and SGPT came back high last month, I literally couldn't sleep thinking about liver failure. But my doctor assured me it happens due to the lupus meds and can be managed. Please consult your specialist soon so they can reassure you too.

Haan na, lupus and its medications can definitely fluctuate your liver enzymes. My doctor told me it is very common, so there is no need to panic. Just make sure you do your regular LFT tests on time, ho na?

Yes, it can happen! But it's usually very manageable once your doctor adjusts your prescription. Just make sure to drink plenty of water and follow your doctor's advice. Stay positive, you've got this!

My recent LFT reports showed high enzyme levels and I am feeling really anxious about it. Has anyone else with lupus experienced this while taking their regular medicines? Did the levels go back to normal after some time?

My son's liver enzymes flared up last year due to his lupus medication. We worked closely with his doctor to adjust the dosage, and we made sure he ate simple, home-cooked food. Keep tracking the reports every few weeks as advised by your pediatrician or rheumatologist.
