Can lupus be mistaken for psoriasis?

Dealing with a skin condition for months now, different doctors have given me different opinions. Some thought it was psoriasis, but others mentioned it could be something like lupus. Is it common for lupus symptoms to be confused with psoriasis?

Yes, they can definitely be confused because both cause red, scaly skin rashes. Managing my thyroid taught me that autoimmune issues are very tricky to diagnose. Please get a proper blood panel and skin biopsy done, and follow up regularly with a rheumatologist.

Absolutely, because both are autoimmune issues that affect the skin. To save money on wrong treatments, don't keep buying expensive random skin creams. Go straight to a government medical college hospital where you can get a specialized ANA blood test done cheaply to confirm the diagnosis.

I totally get it, dealing with chronic skin issues and not knowing the exact cause is so draining and frustrating. Since both lupus and psoriasis cause similar-looking patches, it can take time to get the right answer. Please hang in there and consult a good dermatologist.

Actually, my cousin had these red patches and we all thought it was psoriasis from eating too much oily food or allergies. It turned out to be lupus after she got tested. Autoimmune stuff is so weird, definitely get a proper clinical checkup done to find out.

Yes, lupus rashes and psoriasis plaques can look very similar and are sometimes misdiagnosed. Please see a rheumatologist for an accurate diagnosis.

I struggled for almost a year with misdiagnoses, being told it was just a skin allergy or psoriasis before we finally found out it was lupus. It was an emotionally exhausting time because the treatments are so different. Please don't lose hope and keep advocating for your health.
