Can liver problems cause itchy skin?

For the past few weeks, my skin has been super itchy, especially at night. I've heard that sometimes these things are connected to internal organs like the liver. Could a liver issue be causing this constant itching?

At this point in life, my body finds new ways to complain every month, and this skin itching is the latest! Yes, bile salt buildup from liver issues can cause terrible itching, especially on palms and soles. Better get it checked before you scratch your skin off like I almost did.

Actually, severe itching without any visible rash is a classic liver sign, yaar. My uncle had this issue and kept applying moisturizers, but it was a bile duct problem. You should definitely get a liver profile test done to be sure.

When my cousin had persistent skin itching, we didn't waste time on home treatments and went to a major hospital. The specialist clearly explained the link to liver health and ordered an LFT and ultrasound. I suggest you consult a doctor directly for proper guidance.

I love street food so much, but when my skin started itching like crazy, my doctor told me my sluggish liver couldn't handle the heavy oil. I had to ditch the spicy snacks and eat simple khichdi for a couple of weeks to calm things down. Do see a doctor if it doesn't stop.

Beta, you can apply a little coconut oil with camphor to temporarily soothe the skin itching. However, if the itching is due to liver heat or bile issues, home remedies will only give minor relief. Please visit a proper doctor to treat the root cause.

Yes, medically this is called pruritus, which happens when bile acids accumulate in the skin due to liver dysfunction. My doctor explained that it usually gets worse at night and doesn't respond well to standard anti-allergy creams. Please consult a gastroenterologist for an accurate diagnosis.
