Can liver disease cause weight gain?

My weight has been slowly creeping up despite my efforts to eat healthier and exercise. I read online that sometimes unexplained weight gain can be linked to liver health. Is it true that liver disease can cause weight gain?

I am new here and a bit worried because I have been gaining weight around my stomach lately. Does liver-related weight gain happen suddenly, or is it gradual? Please guide me.

Yes, liver disease can cause sudden fluid retention in the abdomen and legs, which looks like weight gain. When I faced complications, this happened rapidly, so please see a doctor immediately.

Let's be clear: sudden swelling or weight gain around your belly is a classic sign of liver issues. Stop trying home diets and go get an ultrasound and LFT done.

I struggle with weight gain due to my thyroid, but my doctor warned me that liver issues can also cause sudden weight changes due to fluid. Regular tests and specialist follow-ups are highly recommended.

I dealt with severe fluid retention during my liver treatment. Cutting down salt strictly and taking prescribed diuretics helped manage the fluid weight, but you must do this under a doctor's supervision.

Liver dysfunction can lead to fluid buildup (ascites), which resembles rapid weight gain. While a low-sodium vegetarian diet is helpful, a doctor must evaluate the underlying liver health.
