Can liver disease cause black stools?

My husband has been feeling unwell and we noticed his stools have been unusually dark, almost black, for a few days now. He does have a history of some liver problems. Is it possible that liver disease could be causing black stools?

Black stools can indicate internal bleeding, which is a known complication of advanced liver disease. Please do not wait to see if it clears up; go to an emergency room or see a doctor immediately.

Sometimes certain foods or iron tablets can change stool color, which we try to fix with simple diets. But black, tarry stools are a major warning sign. Please do not rely on home remedies and visit a hospital.

I was just reading about this yesterday online. Apparently, liver issues can cause bleeding in the food pipe, which turns the stool black. It sounds really serious, so please consult a specialist.

When my uncle faced this, we immediately took him to Medanta and consulted a gastroenterologist. Black stool is a critical medical symptom, so please ask your doctor clearly what tests are needed.

I love trying all sorts of food, but if your stool is turning black, it's definitely not just from a heavy dinner. That's a sign of internal bleeding, especially with liver issues. Pls skip the spicy food and go straight to a doctor.

Black stool is a classic sign of gastrointestinal bleeding, which is common in advanced liver disease. Stop reading online forums and go to an emergency room immediately.
