Can lithium cause kidney disease?

I'm currently on lithium for my mood disorder, and my doctor has been monitoring my kidney function regularly. I've been hearing stories about lithium being tough on the kidneys. Is there a real risk of it causing kidney disease over time?

Bro, reading about lithium and kidney disease at 3 AM is not doing my insomnia any favors. But from what my doctor friend told me, yes, long-term use can cause issues, which is why they keep checking your blood. Now I'm just going to drink a huge glass of water and try to sleep!

I have seen many people take lithium over the last thirty years. While it is true that it can affect the kidneys if not monitored, most people live perfectly normal lives by just being disciplined. Just do your routine blood checkups on time and trust your doctor, you will be fine.

These heavy English medicines are very strong and can slowly affect the kidneys. Along with your doctor's prescription, try to drink fresh coconut water and eat light, home-cooked meals to reduce the heat in the body. But never ignore the doctor's tests, they are very important.

Yes, chronic kidney issues are a known risk with long-term lithium therapy, similar to how uncontrolled diabetes can hurt the kidneys. It is very important to avoid high-sodium foods and processed items, and always keep your blood pressure under tight control to protect your renal health.

Arey, don't worry! It doesn't mean your kidneys are going to pack their bags and leave tomorrow. Yes, lithium can be thoda harsh on them over many years, but that's why we have doctors and blood tests to keep an eye on things. Just drink water like a fish and relax!

Please don't fill your mind with fear, as negative thoughts also affect our health. It is true that lithium requires careful monitoring for kidney health, but if you keep a positive outlook and follow your medical plan sincerely, everything can be managed beautifully. Take care of yourself.

To prevent any major kidney complications, we have to budget for regular blood tests. I buy annual health packages online which are much cheaper than individual tests. Doing a serum creatinine test regularly is a small price to pay to keep your kidneys safe while on lithium.

The simple solution is to get a Kidney Function Test (KFT) and lithium level test done every 3 to 6 months. It doesn't cost much and gives you clear proof of how your kidneys are doing. If the levels start fluctuating, your doctor will simply adjust or change the medicine.
