Can lithium affect thyroid?

I've been on lithium for my bipolar disorder for about a year now. My endocrinologist recently told me my thyroid levels are off, and I'm concerned about what might be causing it. Can lithium affect the thyroid function?

Arey, at this age, it feels like every medicine I take for one problem decides to start a new party in another organ! Yes, lithium is famous for slow-poisoning the thyroid and causing hypothyroidism. Just keep getting those blood tests done, otherwise you'll gain weight just by looking at food!

Please don't go by home remedies or random forum advice on this, lithium is a very strong psychiatric medication. Yes, it can affect thyroid function, but only your prescribing psychiatrist or an endocrinologist can read your TSH reports and adjust your dose safely. Don't self-medicate or stop it on your own.

It definitely can slow down your thyroid, which might make you feel super sluggish and tired. If your doctor permits, try to keep up a daily 30-minute brisk walk to keep your metabolism active. But definitely keep track of your regular thyroid panel tests alongside.

Listen, don't stress too much about this, okay? Yes, lithium can sometimes mess with the thyroid, but doctors already know this and monitor it closely. Just ask your doc to add a TSH test in your next blood work, and it's super manageable even if there's a slight fluctuation. Relax!

Just like managing my BP, taking lithium requires regular maintenance. It is a well-known fact that it can cause hypothyroidism over time. Make sure you get your T3, T4, and TSH tested every few months as advised by your doctor, and maintain a healthy, low-sodium lifestyle.

Haan bhai, bilkul affect kar sakta hai, thyroid levels upar-neeche ho jate hain lithium se. Mere ek relative ko bhi same problem hui thi jab woh yeh medicine le rahe the. Doctor se regular checkup karate rehna, apne aap tension mat lena, sab manage ho jata hai na.
