Can laxatives cause elevated liver enzymes?

Regularly using laxatives for my digestion issues, my recent blood test showed slightly elevated liver enzymes. The doctor asked about all medications. Could my laxative use be responsible for causing elevated liver enzymes?

As someone managing hormonal issues, I am always very careful with any supplements or meds. While common laxatives don't usually raise liver enzymes, some herbal laxatives (like certain senna-based ones) can strain the liver if overused. It's best to be cautious, monitor your symptoms, and run this by your doctor to be safe.

Beta, taking artificial laxatives regularly can upset the internal balance of your body and affect organs like the liver. Instead of these pills, try drinking warm milk with a spoon of pure ghee at bedtime, or eat soaked figs in the morning. They soothe the bowels naturally without harming your liver.

Yes, some heavy or chemical laxatives, especially when abused for a long time, can stress your liver and cause a temporary rise in enzymes. I always tell people to avoid self-medicating for constipation. Please consult a doctor, get a simple blood test, and switch to a high-fiber diet instead.

Haan na, excessive use of laxatives can definitely affect the liver, especially if we keep taking those heavy herbal powders from local shops without knowing the ingredients. It is always better to check with a proper doctor instead of trying random stuff. Take care, ho na!

Please don't listen to random suggestions on the internet for liver health. If your liver enzymes are elevated, it could be due to several reasons, and certain over-the-counter laxatives can indeed contribute to liver strain. Stop taking them immediately and go get a proper liver function test prescribed by a real doctor.
