Can laundry detergent cause eczema?

My son has eczema, and sometimes after we wash his clothes with our regular detergent, his skin really flares up. We've tried different brands, but I'm still wondering if laundry detergent can actually cause or worsen eczema.

Yes, absolutely! The strong fragrances and chemicals in standard detergents are major triggers for eczema flare-ups. I always suggest switching to a natural, plant-based, or baby-friendly detergent and double rinsing your clothes. If the rash becomes raw, painful, or starts oozing, please see a dermatologist immediately.

Yes, chemical irritants can definitely trigger eczema. Just like I have to manage my high BP through regular checkups and a clean lifestyle, managing skin issues requires being mindful of what contacts your body. Try switching to a mild, fragrance-free detergent and get your skin evaluated by a doctor.

Yes, it is very common. My grandmother used to tell me to wash clothes with soapnut (reetha) to avoid skin itching, which is a great natural method. However, we also consulted a skin doctor who confirmed that chemical optical brighteners in modern detergents are bad for eczema, so we switched to a sensitive-skin laundry liquid.

My dermatologist explained that detergents contain surfactants and synthetic perfumes that strip the skin's natural moisture barrier, leading to contact dermatitis or eczema. He advised me to use liquid detergents instead of powders, as powders leave more residue, and to always skip fabric softeners.

I completely understand how stressful it is to suddenly get itchy skin and not know what's causing it, as I used to panic constantly about my skin rashes. It is highly likely that your laundry detergent is the culprit. Try changing to a hypoallergenic one, and it will hopefully calm your skin and your peace of mind.

Haan bilkul, mere bete ko bhi aise hi skin par rashes ho gaye the detergent badalne se. Inme jo heavy perfume hota hai na, usse sensitive skin allergy ho jati hai. Humne toh tabse mild baby liquid detergent use karna shuru kar diya, aap bhi try karo.
