Can lack of sleep increase blood pressure?

My doctor warned me that my blood pressure is borderline high, and asked about my lifestyle. I consistently get less than 6 hours of sleep due to work. Is it possible that this lack of sleep is directly causing my blood pressure to increase?

Yes, chronic sleep deprivation is clinically proven to elevate blood pressure levels as it keeps your stress hormones high. While fixing your sleep schedule is essential, it is always best to consult a doctor to monitor your cardiovascular health.

My father always tells me that proper rest is the best medicine for a healthy heart. Lack of sleep definitely strains your body and increases blood pressure. If your readings are consistently high, please do visit a doctor.

Don't stress too much, but please take this as a sign to slow down. High blood pressure from no sleep is very common, but it can be managed easily if you start sleeping on time. Take care and get some good rest tonight.

It certainly does. Along with ensuring 7-8 hours of sound sleep, try to reduce your sodium intake and eat more green leafy vegetables. Managing your diet alongside sleep is very helpful for maintaining healthy blood pressure.

I understand your worry, dear. I have tried drinking hibiscus tea and doing deep breathing before bed, which really helps relax the mind and lower blood pressure. But ultimately, getting consistent night sleep is the most practical solution.
