Can lack of sleep cause seizures?

I heard someone say that severe sleep deprivation can sometimes trigger seizures in susceptible people. My sleep has been very poor recently, and it's making me anxious. Can a lack of sleep actually cause or contribute to seizures?

I can only share what happened to a close friend of mine who has epilepsy. His doctor strictly told him that sleep deprivation is a major trigger for his seizures. He has to be very careful about sleeping 8 hours every night.

Please do not ignore this at all. I used to ignore my extreme lack of sleep and strange dizzy spells until I had a major health scare. If you or anyone else is experiencing anything like a seizure, go to a neurologist immediately.

Beta, the brain needs proper rest to function smoothly, and extreme tiredness can disturb the nervous system. There are no home remedies for such serious things. Please make sure you are sleeping well, and consult a doctor immediately if you feel unwell.

I don't know much about seizures, but I know that extreme sleep deprivation can mess up your hormones and brain activity. If you are feeling very unwell, please talk to a medical professional right away for your safety.

In my 60 years, I have seen that extreme exhaustion can cause the body to behave strangely, but actual seizures are serious. If sleep loss is causing such severe symptoms, it is a clear warning sign from your body to see a doctor.
