Can lack of sleep cause hypertension?

My doctor recently diagnosed me with hypertension, and I'm trying to understand all the potential causes. For years, I've had very disturbed sleep patterns due to my shift work. Is it possible that chronic lack of sleep is a major contributor to developing hypertension?

Yes it absolutely can! 😴 I used to sleep barely 4 hours a night and my readings started acting up. Once I fixed my sleep routine and got my 7 hours, things became so much better! Take care and sleep well. ✨

Honestly, yes. If you are constantly sleep deprived, your body remains in high stress mode which directly pushes up your blood pressure. Don't take this lightly. Fix your sleep cycle first or go get a BP checkup done ASAP.

When I was dealing with crazy work hours, my BP shot up. I went to Apollo and my cardiologist told me clearly that poor sleep is a huge trigger for hypertension. Please consult a doctor properly instead of trying to self-manage this.

Yes, there is a very strong link. Just try to limit your phone screen time for an hour before sleeping, it really helps improve sleep quality.

At 50, if I miss my night's sleep, my BP machine at home starts screaming at me the next morning! Our bodies aren't 20 years old anymore, na. Bad sleep and hypertension are best friends, so better start sleeping on time.

Actually yes, and the worst part is when you stay awake late, you end up eating oily midnight snacks like me. That double whammy of no sleep and salty food is a disaster for your blood pressure. Try to sleep early so you avoid both!

Oh god, yes it does and it's so scary. I used to stay up late worrying, and then my BP would rise, which made me worry even more! Please try some breathing exercises before bed and don't stress, but do see a doc to be safe.

I was reading some medical articles about this yesterday and it said chronic sleep loss keeps your nervous system super active, which elevates BP over time. It's crazy how much sleep affects our heart. Has your BP been reading high lately?
