Can lack of sleep cause hallucinations?

Sometimes when I'm extremely tired from not sleeping enough, I feel like I see things in my peripheral vision or hear faint sounds that aren't there. It's a bit scary. Can a severe lack of sleep actually cause hallucinations, even mild ones?

I used to see weird shadows when I was sleep-deprived for three days straight, and it was absolutely terrifying. Please don't feel ashamed; your brain is just exhausted. Please seek medical help immediately.

Oh yes, the brain starts playing funny tricks when it doesn't get rest! I've seen things too after crazy long shifts. But seriously, go get some deep sleep and see a doctor if it continues.

Getting a brain scan or visiting a neurologist can be quite expensive. It is better to first try getting a full night's sleep and consult a general physician at a government hospital to see if that resolves it.

I literally just recovered from this last month. I was sleeping only 2 hours a night, and I started hearing whispers. It stopped completely after I got medication and proper rest from a doctor.

Hey, don't stress too much, you are not losing your mind! The brain just starts dreaming while awake when you are exhausted. Please crash early tonight and see a doctor if it doesn't stop.

Over the years, I have seen many people face this when they cross their physical limits. Sleep deprivation is a powerful trigger for sensory distortions. Please get a proper medical consultation immediately.

Yesterday I thought my laundry bag was a person standing in the corner because I hadn't slept for 36 hours. Sleep loss really plays with your mind! Get some sleep before you start talking to the walls.

I remember seeing moving patterns on the wall after pulliing two all-nighters back-to-back. It is really scary but highly related to extreme exhaustion. Please go get some rest and consult a doctor.

While severe sleep deprivation is the main culprit here, make sure your body isn't starving for essential nutrients. But hallucinations are a serious issue, so please consult a medical professional right away.
