Can kissing someone with cavities give you cavities?

My girlfriend has a few cavities and I'm very careful about my dental health. I heard that kissing can transfer bacteria from person to person. Is there a real risk of getting cavities if you kiss someone who already has them?

I can only share what happened with us; my husband had multiple cavities, and my dentist warned me that sharing saliva can pass the bacteria. I just made sure we both brushed regularly, and luckily, I haven't caught any cavities so far.

Since I manage diabetes, my gums and teeth are already more prone to infections and decay. I have to be extremely careful with oral hygiene, as high sugar levels in saliva feed these bacteria. It's best to maintain strict oral care for both you and your partner.

Beta, the mouth holds many germs, so sharing saliva can certainly transfer the bad bacteria. In our days, we did oil pulling with sesame oil to keep the mouth clean, but modern dental advice and regular brushing are also very necessary nowadays.

Please don't believe random blogs that claim you will instantly get tooth decay from your partner. While the bacteria can transfer, your personal oral hygiene, diet, and saliva quality play the biggest roles. Verify this with a dentist instead.

Just like how I manage my thyroid with regular doctor visits, keeping up with regular dental checkups is key to preventing cavities. Even if bacteria are shared, a dentist can catch any early signs of decay before they turn into actual cavities.

Hey, don't stress too much about it! While the bacteria can travel, you won't magically get cavities overnight just from kissing. Just make sure you keep up with your own brushing and flossing, and you'll be totally fine.

Yes, dental treatments like fillings and root canals are becoming very expensive these days. To avoid these costs, it's highly practical for both partners to invest in basic scaling and cleanups twice a year rather than paying for major dental work later.
