Can kids get skin cancer?

We just came back from a beach vacation, and my kids got quite tanned, even with sunscreen. I'm always worried about sun exposure for them. Is it possible for children to get skin cancer, or is it mainly an adult concern?

While it is extremely rare in children, it can occasionally happen, especially in kids with very sensitive skin or genetic conditions. It's always best to practice good sun protection and have any unusual or changing moles checked by a dermatologist.

I know how terrifying even the thought of this can be for a parent, it literally kept me awake for nights when I saw a weird spot on my daughter. Your anxiety is completely valid, but please take a deep breath and let a skin doctor look at it to ease your mind.

Beta, don't let these scary internet articles worry you too much. Children have very resilient skin, though they do get heat boils and rashes easily. Keep them hydrated, use light cotton clothes, and consult a doctor if a spot looks suspicious.

Having just gone through a skin lesion removal myself, I learned a lot about skin changes. While it's highly unlikely in children, any spot that bleeds, grows quickly, or changes color should be evaluated by a professional right away. Early checking is key.

It is super rare but yes, it is possible! Just make sure to apply a good kid-safe sunscreen when they go out to play in the sun, and they should be perfectly fine. Don't worry too much!

Actually yaar, it's incredibly rare for kids to get skin cancer. Usually, it's just some normal mole or heat rash because of our crazy Indian summers. Just get a derm to check it out once so you can stop stressing.
