Can kidney stones cause kidney failure?

My uncle had kidney stones, and now he's dealing with kidney failure. I'm so scared. Can kidney stones really progress to cause kidney failure in some cases? What are the chances?

As a diabetic, I have to be very careful with my kidneys. My doctor told me that while a small stone won't cause kidney failure, a complete blockage in both kidneys or a severe infection from a blocked stone can be dangerous. Keep your blood sugar in check and drink plenty of plain water.

Drinking coconut water and kulthi dal soup helps in flushing out small stones naturally. But if you have severe vomiting, fever, or are unable to pass urine, please don't rely on home remedies. These can be signs of a complete block which needs urgent medical care.

I track my water intake on my fitness app to prevent stones. Kidney failure from stones is very rare and usually only happens if both kidneys are blocked or if there is severe chronic obstruction. Just monitor your hydration levels and consult a urologist.

I had a 15mm stone blocking my right kidney. The kidney can temporarily stop working properly if the blockage is complete, but it is rarely permanent failure if you get it removed. Keep monitoring your urine output and get a KFT test done.

While it is technically possible for a long-standing, untreated kidney stone blockage to cause renal failure, it is highly uncommon with modern healthcare. The key is timely diagnosis. Please consult a specialist and get an ultrasound done to assess the stone size.

At 53, reading about 'kidney failure' is enough to increase my BP! Honestly, stones are incredibly painful, but complete kidney failure is rare unless you completely ignore a massive blockage for months. Just go to a doctor and get it treated.
