Can kidney stones cause infection?

My doctor warned me that kidney stones can sometimes lead to complications. Can kidney stones themselves cause a urinary tract infection or other types of infection in the body? I want to be careful.

I am new here and actually just got diagnosed with a small stone. I was wondering, does the stone itself carry bacteria, or is it because the urine gets blocked that infections happen? I am a bit scared about getting a fever.

Over the last thirty years, I have had multiple stones and yes, twice they led to urinary infections. It is nothing to panic about if you catch it early. Just make sure you take the full course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor and drink lots of warm water.

Yes, absolutely. Stagnant urine behind a stone can quickly turn into a painful urinary tract infection.

Yes, they definitely can cause UTIs! 梁 The blockage makes bacteria happy. Keep flushing your system with lots of water and coconut water, and keep your doctor in the loop!

I totally get it, dealing with kidney stones is painful enough without worrying about infections. Unfortunately, stagnant urine behind a blocked stone is a breeding ground for bacteria. Please monitor your temperature and seek medical help if you feel chills.

Infections are very common with stones because of blockages. Along with your regular doctor's treatment, drinking pure cranberry juice without sugar and eating fresh home-cooked vegetarian meals helps maintain a good urinary pH. But don't skip the doctor's visit.
