Can kidney stones cause gastrointestinal problems?

My mother has been diagnosed with kidney stones, and she's also experiencing a lot of general gastrointestinal discomfort, like stomach upset. I'm wondering if kidney stones can cause these wider GI problems. She's a bit worried.

Look, the kidneys and your stomach share the same nerve network, so when you have a stone, your digestion is bound to get messed up. You will feel bloated, nauseous, or even constipated. Get a proper checkup and don't just keep taking gas medicines.

I literally just recovered from a 5mm stone last week and the bloating was insane! I felt full and nauseous without even eating anything. It completely went away once the stone passed, so hang in there.

Yes, it is very common to have stomach upset and nausea during this time. Please don't worry too much, take plenty of rest and let your body heal slowly.

Yes, stomach problems are common with pathri. I found that drinking warm water with a bit of lemon or ginger tea really helps with the bloating and nausea. It is a simple and cheap way to feel a bit better.

Yes, the shared nerve pathways cause nausea and slow bowel movements. Try to avoid heavy, greasy foods and stay well hydrated. If the vomiting is severe, please see your doctor for an anti-emetic.

Absolutely, it's called the splanchnic nerve reflex. The kidney pain basically halts your GI tract, leading to nausea, vomiting, or severe bloating. Get an ultrasound done instead of assuming it is just food poisoning.

While gastrointestinal symptoms are indeed very common with kidney stones, severe abdominal pain can sometimes be due to other serious issues like appendicitis. Please consult a doctor to get a correct diagnosis.

Since I have thyroid, my digestion is already slow, and kidney stones made the bloating much worse. Please make sure you get regular checkups and follow up with your doctor to manage both conditions safely.

Yes, definitely! The body gets so busy dealing with the stone that it forgets how to digest food properly. Just stick to light liquids and you will be smiling again very soon!

For sure, renal colic triggers a sympathetic nervous response that completely slows down your gut motility. Keep your diet clean, avoid heavy proteins for a few days, and drink enough water to flush it out.

During my busy work weeks, dealing with kidney stone bloating and nausea was a nightmare. It really slows down your digestion, so eat small, bland meals and keep yourself hydrated with coconut water to keep going.
