Can kidney stones be seen on ultrasound?

My doctor suggested an ultrasound to check for kidney stones. I just wanted to know how effective an ultrasound is. Can kidney stones generally be seen clearly using this method?

Yes, they can definitely be seen on an ultrasound. Since I manage my PCOS, I get pelvic ultrasounds done regularly, and doctors often look at kidneys too. Just make sure to get it done by a trusted diagnostic center and show the report to your doctor.

Yes, ultrasound is highly effective for detecting stones in the kidney itself, though my doctor mentioned it can sometimes miss very small ones in the lower ureter. If symptoms persist despite a clear ultrasound, they usually recommend a CT scan.

Yes, ultrasound is great for catching stones and also checking if they are causing any kidney swelling. If the doctor says it's a minor stone, keeping active and walking can help it pass, but get that scan done first to be sure.

Ultrasound will show the stone very clearly, dear. While drinking barley water or coconut water can help with tiny gravel-like stones, if the ultrasound shows a big stone, please follow the doctor's medicine properly.

An ultrasound is usually the first line of testing and is quite effective at finding stones. However, please don't rely only on internet discussions if you have active pain. Go to a hospital and get a proper professional scan immediately.

Yes, it shows up like a tiny white star on the black-and-white screen! It's a quick, cold-jelly-on-the-stomach process and doesn't hurt at all. Definitely better than guessing what's causing the ache.

Yes, they can! I had to get an ultrasound last year when I had severe side pain, and they caught a 5mm stone easily. It's a super simple and painless test, so don't worry at all.

I tried so many home remedies like lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, but the ultrasound was what actually showed me the stone hadn't budged. It's a very reliable scan. Don't waste too much time on self-treatment if the scan shows a large stone.
