Can kidney stones be black?

I was reading online about different types of kidney stones. It got me wondering if they can really be black in color, because I always thought they were more yellowish or brownish.

Yes, kidney stones can sometimes be very dark or black, especially if they are made of calcium oxalate or have dried blood on them. Stay calm, keep drinking warm fluids, and consult your doctor to understand how to dissolve or pass them.

I ignored dark specs in my urine for weeks, only to later pass a painful black stone. Don't wait until the pain becomes unbearable like I did. Go get an ultrasound and a urine test done right away.

I totally get it, seeing a black stone pass in your urine can be really shocking and scary. They actually can be black or dark brown depending on their mineral makeup. Try not to panic and save the stone if you can so your doctor can test it.

My doctor told me that black stones can sometimes be very hard and sharp, which caused bleeding in my urinary tract. Please don't ignore this; get a proper medical consultation and kidney scan to ensure there are no more stones left behind.

Yes, calcium oxalate stones can often look dark brown or completely black, and they can have sharp, rough edges. If you have passed one, it is highly recommended to show it to your urologist so they can analyze its composition.
