Can kidney stone pain be mild?

My cousin keeps complaining about a dull ache in his back; it's not severe but it comes and goes. Someone mentioned it could be a small kidney stone. Do stones always cause excruciating pain, or can it be mild also?

Yes, absolutely. I spent weeks feeling a constant, dull, depressing ache in my lower back, thinking it was just work stress, before finding out it was a small stone. The emotional toll of not knowing why you hurt is real. Please get an ultrasound done to be sure.

Yes, when the stone is very small or sitting quietly, the pain can be just a mild discomfort. Gentle breathing can help soothe your body, but please drink adequate warm water and consult a doctor to monitor the stone's size.

My stone started with just a mild, dull ache, so I ignored it until it suddenly blocked my kidney and caused a severe infection. Please don't assume mild pain means it's safe. Get it checked by a doctor with an ultrasound before it escalates.

Definitely. If the stone isn't blocking your urinary tract, it might just feel like a minor muscle pull. Make sure you are drinking enough water and tracking your daily intake, especially after heavy workouts, to help flush it out.

I just cleared a 4mm stone last week. Honestly, for the first few days, it was just a mild cramp that came and went, so I didn't even realize it was a stone. Drinking lots of water and taking the doctor's prescribed meds helped me pass it easily.

Yes, it can. People think kidney stones always mean screaming in pain, but small stones often just cause a mild, annoying pinch in the back or side. Stop waiting for it to get worse and go get a quick scan done.
