Can kidney issues cause back pain?

I've been having persistent back pain for months now, and I'm also told I have some minor kidney issues. My friend said they might be related. Is it true that kidney problems can cause back pain?

Yes, kidney issues can cause a dull ache in your upper back, usually on one side. I always make sure to drink plenty of warm water and avoid too much salty vegetarian food when my system feels heavy. But if the pain is severe, definitely see a doctor instead of just changing your diet.

Managing my high BP has taught me that back pain can sometimes be related to kidney strain, as they are located right there in the lower back/flank area. If you have both back pain and high BP, it's a clear sign you need a proper renal checkup. Don't ignore it, get your blood and urine tested.

Oh yes, they definitely can! Kidney pain is usually felt higher up in the back, just under the ribs, and can be quite sharp. Don't worry, just get it checked out by a doctor to see what's causing it! Wishing you a speedy recovery! 😊

Please don't do what I did. I thought my back pain was just a gym strain and ignored it for weeks, only to find out later it was a severe kidney stone blocking my ureter. If your back pain feels deep and doesn't change when you stretch, go get an ultrasound immediately.

At my age, we get all kinds of back pains, but kidney pain is different, beta. It sits higher up in the back, near the ribs, and sometimes spreads to the groin. Don't panic, it's often just a stone or mild infection that doctors can easily treat.

I had this exact doubt last year when I had a constant, deep ache in my right side. It turned out to be a mild kidney infection, not normal muscle pain. Muscle pain usually hurts more when you move, but kidney pain is constant, so please go get a simple urine test done.

Yes, kidney pain is often felt in the flank or upper back area. Try to observe if you also have any fever or pain while urinating, as that points to a kidney issue.
