Can kidney disease cause weight gain?

My mother has chronic kidney disease, and we've noticed she's been gaining a lot of weight lately, especially around her belly. We are managing her diet carefully, so I'm wondering if this weight gain could be directly linked to her kidney condition.

Actually yes yaar, it can cause sudden weight gain but it's not fat, it's mostly fluid retention. If kidneys aren't filtering water properly, your body swells up. You should get a checkup done soon to check for edema.

Fluid overload due to decreased urine output is a classic symptom of renal issues, leading to rapid weight gain. While lifestyle tweaks help, doctor's advice is the best and safest way to address the root cause and get prescribed diuretics if needed.

Sudden weight gain over just a few days is almost always fluid retention when kidneys are struggling. I've seen many people in this group face this. Keep track of your daily weight and fluid intake, and discuss these readings with your nephrologist.

Yes, and the hardest part is that you have to strictly cut down on salty snacks and delicious gravies to control the fluid weight. It's really tough when you love food, but managing sodium is crucial when your kidneys are holding onto water.

Yes, fluid buildup in legs and face can look like sudden weight gain. A practical step is to limit your daily salt intake and monitor your weight daily at home. But please consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Haan babu, jab kidney theek se paani bahar nahi nikal paati, toh sharir mein paani ruk jata hai aur wazan badhne lagta hai. Isme bilkul laparwahi mat kariye aur bade doctor babu ko dikha lijiye.

It's definitely fluid weight (edema) rather than fat. If you are experiencing this, high-intensity workouts won't help and can be risky. Focus on a low-sodium diet and get your kidney function evaluated by a professional.

Please do not ignore sudden weight gain, especially if your face or ankles are swelling. My brother had this and it was a sign of severe fluid retention due to kidney issues. You must see a doctor immediately to prevent further complications.

My son had severe swelling in his face and feet due to nephrotic syndrome, which made him gain weight rapidly. It was very worrying to watch. Proper salt restriction and the right medications prescribed by our doctor helped control the water retention.
