Can kidney disease cause shortness of breath?

My neighbour has kidney issues and often feels breathless even with minimal activity. He is worried about it. Does kidney disease commonly lead to problems like shortness of breath?

Oh god, yes it can, usually because of fluid building up in the lungs or anemia. I literally get so anxious reading about this because it sounds so scary. Please don't ignore it and get a doctor to check your chest and kidney levels right away.

Yes, fluid overload and low red blood cell count from kidney issues can make you lose breath quickly. When this happens, intense exercise is a big no. Focus on a low-sodium diet and strictly follow your doctor's treatment plan.

When my mother developed shortness of breath, her doctor explained it was due to fluid overload (pulmonary edema) and uremic anemia. They adjusted her diuretic medication and monitored her hemoglobin levels. It is a critical symptom, so please seek medical attention immediately.

Fluid retention is a major cause of breathing difficulty in renal patients. If your doctor allows, some very light, slow breathing exercises can help, but do not push yourself. The main thing is to get the excess fluid managed by your medical team.

I have high BP and kidney strain, and shortness of breath can happen when fluid backs up or blood pressure spikes. Regular checkups of your kidney function and heart health are absolutely essential to keep this under control. Don't skip your routine doctor appointments.

My grandmother used to say that breathing difficulty happens when the body's water balance is disturbed. While her traditional wisdom makes sense, we always trusted our family nephrologist for my father's treatment. Please consult your specialist to check for fluid in the lungs.
