Can i stop taking methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis?

Been dealing with rheumatoid arthritis for many years, and my doctor prescribed Methotrexate. My symptoms have improved a lot recently, and I'm wondering if it's safe to stop taking this medicine now. I'm a bit tired of the side effects.

Please keep your heart strong and stay positive during this difficult phase. However, methotrexate is a very powerful medicine for arthritis, and stopping it suddenly can cause your pain to return aggressively. Please pray, take care of your body, and consult your doctor before making changes.

At Amrita Hospital where I go for my joint checkups, the rheumatologists are very strict about this. Stopping methotrexate abruptly can cause severe flare-ups. You must ask your doctor clearly about the tapering process instead of stopping on your own.

I panicked so much when I wanted to stop my treatment due to mild side effects, thinking I would never recover. But once I sat down with my doctor, we safely adjusted the dose and it became totally fine. Don't worry, just talk to your doctor and they will help you manage.

Please do not stop taking methotrexate on your own. Doing so can cause a rebound effect where your joint pain and stiffness become much worse. Discuss your concerns or side effects with your rheumatologist so they can find an alternative.

No, please do not stop methotrexate without consulting your rheumatologist first, as it can cause severe joint flare-ups.

Having dealt with long-term hormonal treatments myself, I know how frustrating daily medication is. But autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis need extremely careful handling. I would never suggest stopping such heavy medicines without your doctor's explicit green light.
