Can i sleep in support stockings?

My doctor advised me to wear support stockings for my varicose veins during the day, which I do regularly. I was wondering if it's safe or beneficial to keep them on while sleeping at night too? Will it cause any issues?

Generally, you should not sleep in support or compression stockings unless specifically advised by your doctor. Along with letting your skin breathe at night, eating a low-sodium vegetarian diet helps reduce leg swelling naturally.

Usually, trackers show that sleeping in compression stockings can restrict blood flow when you are lying down flat. Most medical guidelines suggest taking them off at night unless a specialist prescribed them for overnight wear.

It is best to take them off at night so your legs can relax naturally. To improve circulation, you can practice Viparita Karani (legs-up-the-wall pose) for 10 minutes before going to sleep.

I had to wear these after my knee surgery. My doctor strictly told me to take them off before sleeping because they can block circulation when you aren't moving. Better to remove them at night.

I panicked when I fell asleep wearing mine once and woke up with very numb toes. But my doctor reassured me it's fine as long as I don't make it a habit. Just remember to take them off before bed.

Don't sleep in them unless it's a special post-surgery instruction. Normal compression stockings are designed for when you are standing or walking. Sleeping in them can cause skin irritation and muscle cramps.
