Can i eat sourdough bread with gestational diabetes?

My doctor recently diagnosed me with gestational diabetes, and I'm trying to manage my diet carefully. Someone suggested sourdough bread is better than regular bread. Can I eat sourdough bread with gestational diabetes, or should I avoid it?

Yes, actually sourdough is much better than white bread! The fermentation process lower its glycemic index, so it won't spike your sugar as fast. Just eat a moderate slice, toast it, and pair it with some eggs or paneer for extra protein to keep things stable.

Sourdough is generally a better alternative due to its lactic acid content, which moderates glucose absorption. However, individual glycemic responses can vary widely during pregnancy. It is best to discuss your daily carb allowance with your endocrinologist or dietitian.

I overthink every single meal, so I get the worry. Sourdough is supposed to be safer, but please monitor your levels 2 hours after eating it just to be sure. Everyone's body behaves differently with carbs during pregnancy, so tracking is the only way to feel peaceful.

Cravings during gestational diabetes are no joke, especially when you love bread! Real sourdough is a savior here. Toast a slice, load it up with boiled eggs, cucumber, and cheese. It satisfies the bread craving without the massive sugar crash.

My cousin had gestational diabetes last year and she switched to sourdough. It definitely spiked her less than regular bread. Just make sure you aren't buying the processed commercial ones, get real fermented sourdough from a good bakery.

Sourdough has a lower GI compared to normal white or brown bread, which is great. Try to go for a walk for 10-15 minutes right after eating it. That light activity really helps your muscles soak up the glucose and keeps your post-meal readings in check.

I totally understand how terrifying it is to eat anything when you have gestational diabetes. I used to cry checking my monitor. Honestly, whole wheat sourdough worked okay for me in small portions. Just try half a slice first and see how your body reacts.

Don't panic! I went crazy searching Google when I was diagnosed. Sourdough is actually one of the safest bread options because of the fermentation. Just eat it with some butter or avocado to slow down digestion even more, and you will be absolutely fine.
