Can hypertension cause kidney failure?

My doctor keeps emphasizing the importance of managing my hypertension due to potential organ damage. My cousin recently developed kidney failure. I'm very concerned, can uncontrolled high blood pressure truly lead to kidney failure?

Yes, chronic uncontrolled high blood pressure is one of the leading causes of kidney damage. Please get a serum creatinine and urine microalbumin test done immediately. Do not ignore this, and get your reports verified by a nephrologist or physician.

It can be incredibly terrifying to read about kidney risks and feel like your body is a ticking time bomb. I went through so much anxiety when my doctor mentioned this to me. Please take it one step at a time and focus on keeping your BP controlled, you can manage this.

Unmanaged BP does damage the kidneys over time, so prevention is much cheaper than dialysis. Go to a government hospital or use discounted lab packages to get a basic kidney function test done for 300-400 rupees. Regular tests will save you from major medical expenses later.

I was just reading about this online because my dad has high BP. It turns out high pressure damages the blood vessels in the kidneys over time, reducing their ability to filter blood. It's definitely a good reason to make sure they never skip their daily BP medicines.
