Can hydrochlorothiazide cause diabetes?

For some time now, I've been taking Hydrochlorothiazide for my high blood pressure. My doctor recently mentioned monitoring blood sugar. I'm a bit worried, can this medication actually cause a person to develop diabetes?

Haan na, actually some BP meds can raise blood sugar levels slightly. My kaka was on a similar water pill and his sugar shot up a bit, then doctor changed his dose. Best is to ask your doc ho na, don't worry too much but keep track.

Yes, it actually can increase blood sugar levels in some people. You should consult your doctor to monitor your levels.

Any medicine that changes your fluid balance can affect metabolic markers, so safety first. Please get your fasting and post-prandial blood sugar tested soon. Don't make any changes to your prescription without showing those reports to your general physician.

Bro, my dad was on this exact drug for hypertension and his sugar levels spiked after a few months. His doctor explained it can happen with diuretics and adjusted his treatment. Definitely go get your blood work done instead of stressing online.

It can sometimes affect your glucose levels if you are already borderline. Try incorporating a bit of daily methi seeds water and reducing simple carbs, but please don't stop your BP medicine on your own. Go talk to your doctor and get a simple HbA1c test done to be absolutely sure.
