Can high pulse rate cause heart attack?

Sometimes my heart races very fast, especially when I'm stressed or anxious. Does having a high pulse rate, even if temporary, increase my risk of a heart attack? I get quite scared when it happens.

I literally just went to the ER for a pulse rate of 140 last month. It was terrifying, but the doctor told me a high heart rate itself doesn't cause a heart attack, though it can put extra stress on the heart. Definitely get an ECG done to be safe.

Haha, don't worry, your heart isn't going to explode just because you saw a high number on your fitness band! High pulse is usually just too much coffee, stress, or dehydration. Just sit down, drink cold water, and stop staring at your smartwatch!

Please do not ignore this. I once ignored a racing heart and lightheadedness, thinking it was just acidity, and ended up having a major health scare. If you have a high pulse rate along with chest pain, heavy sweating, or dizziness, go to the hospital immediately.

As a diabetic, I have to watch my vitals carefully because high blood sugar can also cause a rapid heart rate. Make sure you are checking your sugar levels along with your pulse, and consult your physician to keep both in a safe range.

I totally get it, seeing your pulse rate go up can be incredibly scary and makes your anxiety even worse. Most of the time it is harmless stress, but since it is about the heart, getting an expert doctor's opinion is always the best way to quieten your mind.
