Can high protein cause kidney stones?

I'm a fitness enthusiast and follow a high-protein diet for muscle gain. A friend told me that too much protein can cause kidney stones. Is this true? I want to make sure my diet isn't harmful.

Please be very careful. I went on a heavy, uncontrolled high-protein diet without drinking enough water, and I ended up in the ER with severe kidney stones. The pain was unbearable. Please consult a doctor before increasing your protein intake drastically.

Hey, don't stress too much! High protein can increase uric acid and lead to stones, but only if you are completely ignoring hydration. Just drink lots of water throughout the day, maybe squeeze some lemon in it, and you'll be totally fine.

I got so paranoid after reading online that protein shakes cause kidney damage and stones. I literally checked my urine every day! But my doctor told me that moderate protein is safe if you stay hydrated. Just don't overdo the supplements without a test.

My son started taking heavy protein supplements for gymming and developed kidney stone pain last year. We had to immediately stop the powder and put him on a strict natural diet with plenty of liquids. Parents should always monitor these gym diets closely.

I've been feeling a mild, dull pain in my lower back since I increased my paneer and egg intake. Could this be the start of a kidney stone? Has anyone else felt this kind of ache when starting a high-protein diet? I'm a bit nervous.
