Can heartburn cause throat pain?

I've been having this burning sensation in my throat, especially after meals, and I also get heartburn often. Is it possible that the heartburn is causing this throat pain, or could it be something else?

Yes, acid coming up can definitely irritate the throat. Drinking some lukewarm water helps soothe the burning instantly.

I get this a lot because of late-night office dinners and immediate sleep. The acid travels up during the night, leaving a sore throat in the morning. Try keeping a 3-hour gap between your dinner and bedtime, it really works.

Actually yaar, this is very common when you eat too much spicy food. The acid literally burns the throat lining, making it feel like a sore throat. Just avoid heavy masala for a few days and you will feel better.

Bro, same here. I thought I had a bad cold or flu because my throat was hurting so much. Turned out it was just bad acid reflux from skipping meals. Eating on time solved it for me.

Yes, acid reflux or silent GERD is a major culprit behind unexplained throat pain. I had to completely cut out citrus fruits, tomatoes, and oily food from my diet for a couple of weeks to let my throat heal. Focus on eating light, alkaline meals.

Omg yes, during exams when I survive on maggi and coffee, my throat starts burning like crazy. I thought I was getting sick but it was just terrible acidity. Resting and drinking cold milk helped me so much.

Acidity absolutely causes throat irritation when the stomach acid slips past the sphincter. I noticed this happened when I took pre-workout on an empty stomach. Cleaning up my meal timings and staying hydrated helped clear it up.

Beta, when the stomach acid rises up, it can irritate the delicate skin of your throat. Try chewing on a small piece of fennel seeds (saunf) after your meals to keep the digestion calm. If it does not get better in two days, please see a doctor.

The digestive fire can sometimes go out of balance and irritate the throat passage. Practicing Sheetali pranayama gently can help cool down this internal heat. Please be gentle with your body and keep your meals simple and fresh.

I suffered from this chronic throat clearing and hoarseness for months before realizing it was acid reflux. Elevating the head of my bed by six inches and avoiding dinner after 8 PM worked wonders. Give it a try, it takes a few days but it helps.

My grandmother always suggests drinking warm buttermilk with a pinch of ginger for this. It does give comfort, but if the throat pain and burning are persistent, it is always best to visit an ENT specialist or your family doctor.

Welcome to the club! Once you cross forty, even looking at a samosa can give you a sore throat by midnight. Yes, it's definitely acid reflux. Keep some antacids handy and say goodbye to late-night snacking.
