Can heartburn cause chest pain?

I get chest pain very often, but doctors always say it's just acidity. Can heartburn really cause such intense chest pain that feels like something serious?

Yes, absolutely. My teenager often gets sharp chest pain after eating junk food, which turned out to be severe acid reflux irritating the food pipe. Giving them a light meal and avoiding late-night snacks helps a lot. However, if the chest pain is very heavy or doesn't go away, please get a doctor to check it.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to feel chest pain, as my mind immediately jumps to a heart attack every single time. Yes, heartburn is one of the most common causes of non-cardiac chest pain because of acid irritation. To ease your anxiety, a quick doctor's visit and an ECG can confirm it is just acidity.

According to my health tracking apps and medical logs, heartburn is a classic cause of burning chest pain because stomach acid escapes into the esophagus. It usually gets worse when lying down or bending over. It is always a good practice to track your symptoms and consult a doctor if the pain is accompanied by breathing issues.

My mother always tells me to drink warm buttermilk with ginger when my chest burns after a heavy South Indian meal, as it helps soothe acid reflux. Heartburn is highly likely to cause chest discomfort, but since heart issues can also feel similar, we always consult our family doctor just to be completely safe.

At this point in my life, even looking at a samosa can cause heartburn that feels like a full-blown emergency in my chest! Yes, acidity can cause very real, scary chest pain. Keep some antacids handy, but if the pain is crushing or makes you sweat, please stop guessing and head straight to a clinic.

In my seventy years, I have seen many family members panic over chest pain that ended up being simple gastric acidity. Heartburn can indeed cause a very sharp or burning pain right behind the breastbone. Do not worry excessively, but it is always wise at our age to get a professional medical opinion to be safe.
