Can hctz cause kidney stones?

I've been taking HCTZ for my blood pressure for quite some time now, as prescribed by my doctor. My sister recently got kidney stones, and she heard this medication might be a risk factor; should I be concerned about it?

Well, HCTZ is a water pill, so it literally makes you pee non-stop! Actually, it usually lowers calcium in your urine, which might actually prevent stones rather than cause them. Just keep drinking water so you don't turn into a raisin!

HCTZ typically decreases calcium levels in urine, which can actually help prevent kidney stones. However, discuss any concerns directly with your doctor.

HCTZ is a standard diuretic that usually reduces urinary calcium, lowering stone risk. But you must get regular blood tests done to monitor your potassium and kidney function as prescribed. Don't skip your routine follow-ups.

Agreed, HCTZ actually helps reduce calcium excretion in urine, which often prevents calcium kidney stones. Just stay well hydrated.

My mom was prescribed HCTZ for her blood pressure, and her doctor actually mentioned it helps prevent calcium kidney stones. But since it is a diuretic, you can get dehydrated easily. Make sure to keep sipping water throughout the day.

I used to ignore mild side pain while taking BP medication and ended up with severe kidney complications. Don't play guessing games with prescription drugs like HCTZ. If you have any back pain or painful urination, get a clinical checkup immediately.

Haan na, taking these daily BP medicines is so stressful, we always worry about side effects, ho na. But my doctor said HCTZ actually stops calcium stones from forming. Just remember to drink enough water daily.

I totally get it, starting a new blood pressure medication can make you so anxious about side effects like kidney stones. HCTZ is generally safe and often used to prevent stones, but the anxiety is very real. Just stay hydrated and trust your doctor's plan.
