Can gout cause back pain?

Gout is in my foot, but lately, I've also been having strange lower back pain. Can gout cause back pain, or is this just a coincidence?

While gout typically targets joints like the big toe or knees, in rare cases, uric acid deposits can affect the spine and cause back pain. If your doctor allows it, doing very gentle stretches and walking can help, but do not push yourself if the pain is acute.

Listen, back pain from gout is not very common, but it is certainly possible if uric acid is high. Don't panic about it. Just visit your doctor, get a simple blood test for uric acid, and let them guide you on the next steps to keep you safe and pain-free.

I get so worried when new symptoms show up. I read that gout can rarely affect the spine, and now every time my back aches, I start panicking about my uric acid levels. Please get a proper medical checkup done so you don't have to keep worrying like me.

I have been dealing with gout for ten years now. While it mostly flares up in my feet, I did experience back discomfort during a major flare-up once. Staying hydrated to flush out the uric acid and avoiding high-purine foods like spinach and certain dals really helped me manage it.

Please be very careful with this. I had severe back pain which I thought was normal muscle strain, but it turned out to be related to my untreated gout complications. Please see a specialist immediately to get a proper diagnosis instead of trying to self-treat at home.
