Can gerd cause back pain?

I've been dealing with GERD for a while, and besides the heartburn, I've also started having persistent pain in my upper back, right between my shoulder blades. I thought it was just muscle strain. Could my GERD be causing or contributing to this back pain?

Yes, severe acid reflux can cause referred pain that travels to your upper back between the shoulder blades. I used to think my back ache was from heavy lifting, but it was actually severe GERD. Keeping your posture straight after meals and eating lighter can really help reduce this.

Beta, sometimes heart or gallbladder issues can also feel like back pain and acidity. Do not take it lightly or try to treat it at home. Please go to a good clinic or hospital and get yourself properly examined by a doctor to know the exact cause.

I have experienced this myself; severe indigestion can radiate discomfort to the upper back. Doing gentle stretches and Vajrasana after light meals helped improve my digestion, but if you have a burning sensation in the back along with severe chest pain, please consult a doctor immediately.

When I had persistent back pain and acidity, I went to Care Hospital to get a clear diagnosis. The physician explained that esophageal irritation can feel like it's coming from the back. You should ask your doctor clearly about this rather than guessing.

As a diabetic, I have to be very careful with my diet because digestion is often slow. When I get gas and acidity, it sometimes hurts in my upper back as well. I manage my sugar levels closely, but for any persistent back pain with acidity, I always consult my doctor.

I literally panic every time I feel pain in my upper back, thinking it is some organ failure or worse. Acid reflux can definitely cause referred back pain, but the worry makes it feel ten times worse. Please see a doctor to get some peace of mind, it really helps to talk to a professional.
