Can gas feel like a heart attack?

Recently, I experienced a sudden, tight pain in my chest and a bit of breathlessness, which really scared me, thinking it was a heart attack. After a while, I burped a lot and felt better. My son said it could be severe gas, but can gas really mimic the symptoms of a heart attack so closely?

Oh absolutely, welcome to the club! Last month I literally thought I was packing my bags for heaven because of a sharp chest pain. Turned out to be a heavy bowl of chana masala. Still, never take chest pain lightly; get an ECG done to be safe.

Hey, take a deep breath. Yes, trapped gas can cause a very sharp, crushing feeling in your chest that mimics a heart attack. Try to sit upright and drink some warm water. But listen, if the pain spreads to your arm or jaw, go to the emergency room immediately, okay?

Honestly, I had this happen last year and I panicked so hard. Trapped gas can put so much pressure on your chest that it genuinely feels terrifying. Warm water and walking around for 15 minutes really helped me clear it.

I was actually reading a medical blog about this yesterday. Apparently, the nerves in our gut and heart share similar pathways, which is why bad gas can feel exactly like a heart issue. It is so scary but incredibly common!

I completely understand the sheer panic you must be feeling; it is absolutely terrifying when chest pain hits. I used to stay awake crying, thinking I was having a heart attack when it was just gastric pressure. Please get a doctor's checkup to ease your mind.

It actually feels so real yaar! I once rushed to the hospital at midnight thinking it was my heart, but the doctor did an ECG and told me it was just severe acidity. I felt so embarrassed but relieved. Better safe than sorry!

Yes, gas can cause intense chest tightness. The key difference is that gas pain often changes when you burp or walk, whereas cardiac pain doesn't. Still, as a general rule, any new or severe chest pain must be checked by a doctor immediately.
